MAUT~

Don’t be stunned by the title, it’s just that moi, Nadhia and Fiza just had the opportunity to watch the film ‘Maut’ last night although it was released in Malaysia in January this year. Yelah, nak buat mcm mane dah duduk jauh kan? Thanks to Nadhia yg memang banyak access to filem-filem Malaysia nih (movies from Indonesia, Thailand pun dia byk dpt~ hehehe)…. I just HAVE to do a review of this movie after watching it (walaupun lambat 6 bulan…hihihi)…… and pardon me, I will be using a 'rojak' language here because I believe some of the expressions are better conveyed using Bahasa Melayu.

So basically, the movie comprises of three different stories. The first story starts with 2 girls who don’t know each other, Su and Fadilah, on a bus. Su then got off the bus and went home. She was doing her work when she suddenly heard a whispering voice calling her name and the voice greet her with a ‘salaam’ (seram giler part ni gua ckp lu.. bulu roma mmg gerenti tegak terpacak mcm lepas pakai Brylcream yg Azar dok promote kat blog dier..huhu). Okay, moving on~ Su opened the door and saw the girl from the bus (Fadilah). Fadilah said that she has been a victim of snatched theft at the bus stop and she has no money to go to her aunt’s house. Su, being a super-oh-so-nice-and-innocent girl let Fadilah in and asked her to sleepover for the night and promised that she’ll send Fadilah to her aunt’s house the next morning.


The thing is, I know la benda ni cite kan, tp logic la sket beb. Firstly, ko dah dgr ada suara bisik2 kat telinga ko. Then, ko bukak pintu, ko nampak budak pompuan atas bas tu terpacak kat depan umah ko. Logically, dah la budak tu turun kat stop yg lain dpd ko, so how on earth does she know where you live?! And ko dgn sesuka hatinya ajak dia tido plak kat umah ko. Haisy~I’m gonna speak no more of the storyline. Enough to say that YES, Fadilah was a HANTU and she seeked for Su’s help to find her body which was raped and murdered.


My opinion on this first story….. I HATE the dubbing! Tak logik langsung. I know la filem Malaysia ni kurang budget but the actors have to be realistic jugak la time buat dubbing tu. Just imagine, you’re on top of a stairs and you are talking to your girlfriend who is down the stairs but the intonation tu mcm ko tgh ckp dgn org kat sblah ko. The next thing is, the actors don’t look natural when acting (except for Raja Farah. She’s good!). Bak kata Nadhia, dorg ckp dialog tu mcm tgh kena assess time ujian lisan BM for SPM..LOL!!! Believe it or not, pakcik pelakon extra yg jadi polis tu pun lagi natural lakonannya~ LOL! All I all, the plot is definitely predictable for the first story and there’s no part in the story which gives me goosebumps except for the part where the ghost whispers to Su.


The second story revolves around a Muslim woman yg dah terpesong akidahnya and she is married to a white guy. Her lifestyle does not represent her religion at all until one day in the month of Ramadhan when she realised that she has been living a sinful life. She was on the way to perform the tarawikh prayers when she collapsed in front of the mosque. She went into a comma for three days and during that period she experienced a nightmare where she got her punishments for all the sins she made. I gotta say that I love this part of the story! Walaupun menakutkan, tp at the same time menginsafkan. Alhamdulillah~ The presentation was so vivid and I gotta give double thumbs up for the CGI. Quoting Fiza, “kalau aku jadi pelakon pompuan ni, sah aku insaf pakai tudung terus lepas berlakon scene tu”.


Despite all the scenes yg menginsafkan tu, this second story does give me a shock! I can’t believe that FINAS approved the words ‘s**t’, ‘b****rd’ and ‘d**khead’! Boy, are you freaking serious?! I mean, if this is a Hollywood film, I wouldn’t even care but to think that this is a Malaysian movie… Hmmmphh~~ And what’s more surprising is that the scenes of the ‘stag party’ and ‘hen party’ are also approved! Whoaaa~~ During the stag party, the actor actually bared the upper half of his body while dancing with DRAG QUEENS and at the hen party, the actress was blindfolded and then she was given a BANANA to lick!!! PISANG BEB!! You know what I mean kan?!! *naughty thoughts heh?* LOL! Seriously speaking, I have no idea that Malaysian movies have gone as far as this… Bukan nak tipu la, but sepanjang scene tu mmg aku istighfar je~


Macam the first story, ade jugakla scenes yg tak logik dalam cite no 2 nih. Firstly, time pelakon pompuan tu kuar from ER, she still pakai telekung lagi~ Takkan la nurse tak tukarkan baju dia? Hmmpphh~~ Next, there was a scene where the actors supposed to be drinking wine tp wine dia tu tak nampak real~ Macam air sirap je~ Kalau standard kat UK yg takde air sirap nih, air tu nampak mcm blackcurrant cordial yg Fiza slalu minum… hehehe~. I have to agree with Nadhia sbb dia ckp kalau pakai air Ribena pun nampak lagi real kot!~ ROTFL!!~~ But still, I applaud the director for portraying the reality in Malaysia right now. Name je negara Islam, tp ramai yg hidup mcm tu~ Quoting dialog pelakon pompuan dalam cite ni “…Islam hanya pada nama”.


Moving on to the third and last story… I would say that out of the three stories, this one is our favourite!!! The cast ensemble was great and their acting was superb. Just imagine, in one story you have actors like Fauziah Nawi, Que Haidar, Eja, Ridzuan Hashim and last but not least… MY Awal Ashaari *melts*…. Yes, it deserves a repetition, MY Awal Ashaari *melts again* .. LOL!~ To keep it short, this story is basically about a group of black-metal-worshippers-teenagers who went to a black metal concert on the the eve of Eid. Takde keje btol bdk2 nih~ Malam raya org pegi takbir, dorg pegi konsert plak. Tolong mak pasang langsir kat umah lagi bagus. Cet~


So yeah, they went to the concert and on the way back they met with an accident. Only two people survived and yup.. MY Awal’s character died! T_T (geram btol~ I was thinking of seeing more of him in the movie walaupun die nampak cam budak black metal yg hampes~). Being the lead of the third story, Que Haidar’s character survived but again…like in the second story, fell into a deep comatose where he had a flashback of his childhood and then the ghost of his childhood haunts him. Seriously cakap la, memang tak menakutkan langsung~ hehehe… He died soon after and then came part yg menginsafkan~ Masa jenazah dia dimasukkan dalam kereta jenazah, empat2 tayar kereta tu pancit~ Then, time nak kebumikan, lahad dia penuh dgn air. Lepas dikebumikan pun tanah kubur dia hari2 mendap. Kenapa benda ni jadi? Faham2 sendiri la. Renung2 kan la ye.. Buatla muhasabah diri sikit.


My review on this last story would be… This is the only part of the whole movie where I can see real acting from every cast. I’m not being biased because MY Awal is in it. Trust me! Satu benda je la yg aku tak puas hati (this will sound a bit personal..haha)… Muka MY Awal tu dah cun2 hensem habes dah~ Tak bleh terima la bile tgk muka die kene calit dgn foundation yg tak sesuai dgn skin tone dia! Eyeliner pun mengalahkan Cleopatra beb! LOL!!! Kesian MY Awal~


Story yg last ni pun buat kitorg terkejut gak sebab scene konsert black metal tu mmg aku tak leh nak hadap. Macam tu la agaknyer situasi kat konsert2 black metal ni kot~ Skinship dia mmg melampau! Ada satu part tu, sepasang couple ni mmg sket je lagi nak comolot dgn lahapnyer.. (pardon my words there~). My Awal dgn Que Haidar tu pun dgn tanpa segan silunye memeluk Nana AF and Sherry Ibrahim dgn terlampaunyer. Taula nak feeling berlakon tp agak2la sket~ Dialog dalam cite no 3 ni pun tersangatla beraninyer. Tak payah la tulis kat sini ape dialognye. Gerun nak tulis, “Kalau silap2 sebut ni boleh murtad” (Nadhia 2009). Seriously! Hopefully pelakon2 cite ni byk2la bawak mengucap lepas berlakon~


Lastly, I would say that this movie is worth watching. For people yang boring tahap gaban during the first story, just hang in there a little bit because the stories just keep getting better towards the end. Congrats to Bade Hj. Azmi because he managed to come out with a movie yg sarat dgn mesej. My disappointment of this movie will be a few technical flaws yg buatkan filem ni kadang2nye nampak tak logik. Dengan penuh confidentnyer, I’ll give this movie 3/5 stars. Ok la~~ I’m hoping to see better Malaysian movies in the future.


P/S: Lepas ni nak tunggu cite ‘Skrip 7707’ plak. Dengar cite promotion die gempak giler. 9 cerita hantu dalam satu filem (mmg trend ek buat byk2 cite hantu skrg nih?). Ada 35 pelakon yg hebat katenye… Lagila tak sabar nak tgk. Mane taknye, filem ni kuar same tarikh dgn Harry Potter kat Malaysia tp kutipan jualan dia lagi tinggi dpd Harry Potter! Biar betik??!!
